Review: Up

Picture 3

A tale of a man’s promise to his wife, Up is Pixar’s funniest and most touching film to date.

Directed by Pete Docter (Monsters Inc.), who, in my opinion, is second in talent only to Brad Bird (The Iron Giant, Ratatouille, The Incredibles) within the Pixar ranks, Up works on every level. Each moment, every character, all of the details in the background, come together to tell a wonderous story.

And it is story that separates Pixar from the other studios. They never rely on easy pop-culture references, stunt-casting, or cheap gimmicks to get bums on seats. If they could market their story department to other studios they would be very rich indeed. And we would be rich in fantastic films.

The only problem with Up is that the first section of the film is so well done that the rest of the film has trouble topping it. Not a bad position to be in!

I saw Up in 3D and it looked amazing, yet, if you do not have access to a 3D theatre, it would work just as well in two dimensions.

I don’t have much more to say really. The film speaks for itself. The photos in this blog should give you a hint of where the plot goes and you don’t want to know much else going in. Pixar has done it again; to a cinema you should go!
